| BACKGROUND TO THE VACANCY:
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are a professional basketball club with a base in Chester playing in the British Basketball League. We are entering the second year of a 5 year strategy to create a major community based sports club in the North West.
Our full time community coaching resource is expanding from 1 to 3 reflecting the significant growth of our programmes. Applications from candidates who would consider working part time will be considered.
THE ROLE:
To be responsible for planning and delivering of basketball coaching and tournament delivery as part of The Hoops for Health programme and to oversee the development of 3 EB registered youth participation clubs.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- HOOPS FOR HEALTH
- To deliver the coaching element of the Hoops for Health programme in around 60 primary schools to year 5 and 6 young people, teaching the fundamentals of basketball and preparing a team for a match environment.
- To organise a series of regional tournaments and finals tournaments for the schools in conjunction with the local competition manager.
- To carry out a full post delivery assessment of the programme.
- YOUTH PARTICIPATION CLUBS
- To run 3 youth participation clubs in the area initially focussing on the recruitment of young people and coaching delivery and then moving onto establish a professional structure for the club with a parental committee, 100 EB registered players, 5 level 1 coaches, 2 level 1 referees, 2 level 1 table officials
- To run the Central Venue League for the 8 youth participation clubs.
- OTHERS
- To run half term basketball camps in conjunction with the other community coaches
- To assist in the running of the match day clinic programme
- GENERAL
- Operate in accordance with national minimum standards for coaches and activities.
- Be aware and comply with all relevant Health and Safety regulations and work procedures as highlighted by your line manager.
- Be responsible for setting up and dismantling all the equipment required for each coaching session and ensure that it is safe for use at all times.
- Ensure that all accident and incidents are recorded and those deemed to be serious reported immediately to your line manager.
- Wear and maintain issued uniform or clothing as directed and to conduct your self in a manner commensurate with the high profile image of BiG Storage Cheshire Jets
- The work should prioritise the delivery of the programme to the schools and children. In so doing there will be a need for working around their needs, including evening and weekend work
- Engage in a managed continuous personal development plan, based on learning centred approach and the requirement of the coaching role, including development of basketball coaching and other related sports.
THE CANDIDATE
We are looking for a person who is passionate about the success of The Jets both in the community and on the court and initially only advertising the position through the website and Jets mail in the hope that we can attract a person who is either passionate about The Jets themselves our is made aware of the opportunity through a ‘Jets believer.’
The person should have relevant experience of coaching youth basketball with a level 2 EB coaching qualification.
