BBL Trophy Semi Final Draw Announced

With three of the four participant teams confirmed, the draw for the BBL Trophy semi-finals, taking place at the Ponds Forge ISC in Sheffield on Saturday 2nd February, was conducted this morning and is as follows:

BBL Trophy semi-final 1 (3.30pm) Worcester Wolves vs. Guildford Heat
BBL Trophy semi-final 2 (6.00pm) Newcastle Eagles vs. Group One Winner

BBL Trophy group one remains up for grabs and will be settled next weekend.
The winners could be known on Saturday as the Marshall MK Lions travel to the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders in search of a victory that will send them through regardless of what happens elsewhere.
The BiG Storage Cheshire Jets can progress if the Lions lose that game and they subsequently beat the Riders in Sunday's clash at the Northgate Arena.
The final permutation is that the Riders defeat both the Lions and the Jets, in which case the Kularoos Plymouth Raiders, who are reigning champions, will reach the semi-finals as group winners.

With a win for the Lions the semi-final will see a repeat of the BBL Cup Final between the league's current top two, in which the Lions defeated the Eagles 69-66 just over a week ago at the National Indoor Arena. If it is the Raiders that go through, then it is a repeat of last season's BBL Trophy final in which they triumphed over the Eagles at the MetroRadio Arena in March 2007.

The Jets and Eagles, meanwhile, have a long-standing rivalry in this competition having twice met at the semi-final stages (2003 & 2005), splitting those games, and having also contested a final in 2001 that the Jets were victorious in. The Guildford Heat will compete in their second semi- final of the season, and their second BBL Trophy semi-final in three seasons, when they face the Worcester Wolves at Ponds Forge. For the Midlands outfit it is the first time that they have reached this stage of any BBL competition and they will need to beat the Heat for the first time in their history, having already lost 89-108 to them during this campaign, in order to make the final.

Tickets for the BBL Trophy semi-finals, priced at £12 for adults, £8 for children, and £35 for a family (2 adults & 2 children), are available by calling 0870 445 0606 or online at www.bblshop.org.uk
