BiG Storage Cheshire Jets Land Top Player-Coach

The BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are delighted to have landed a legendary BBL icon as their first signing for the new season. Late on Monday night Chester-time ex-Newcastle Eagles captain and play-caller TJ Walker put pen to paper and became the Jets Player –coach for the new season.

BiG Storage Cheshire Jets’ Director of basketball Paul Smith commented: “this is a real coup for the club.   TJ has consistently been the best guard in the league for the past five years and has been the target for a number of clubs, both in the BBL and further afield over the close season.   It is a tribute to the vision for the future that the new management has that TJ has chosen to come to Chester and we look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Plans are already in place for TJ (pictured left) to fly in from the USA to meet up with the rest of the management team at the Jets basketball camp at the Catholic High School in Ellesmere Port between 22nd and 27th July, where he will also take part in coaching the youngsters.

TJ is delighted to be joining the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets – “This is the right place at the right time in my career - I am looking to develop my role as a coach so it was a real no-brainer”, he said, “Chester is a real basketball city – the fans are so passionate and I want to help put the club back to where it’s supposed to be at – winning trophies.”

Almost before the ink has dried on the contract, TJ has got down to work.   “ I have been talking with Paul Smith about possible players for the squad.   Some names are already in the frame and we are united in our wish to put a really competitive side on to the floor in September”

Apart from coaching and playing, an important part of TJ’s role will be to assist with the setting up of the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets community programme, to be known as Hoops 4 Health, targeting 5000 plus school pupils during next season.   “I was involved with a similar project in Newcastle”, TJ explained, “so I can bring a lot of valuable experience about the way it works.   As well as promoting healthy lifestyles through regular exercise, the programme will try to establish the game more at a grass roots level – essential if basketball is to grow and prosper in the area”

Further announcements relating to the signing of players and other activities involving the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are expected soon.
