Jets Swoop To Capture Big Man
Big Storage Cheshire Jets have taken another step towards the completion of their 2008/9 Roster with the signature of Shuan Stegall, a 6’7”, 15 st 10lb forward.
Shuan, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, played for the Kennesaw State Owls in America’s “Atlantic Sun” Conference, where he finished last season ranked second in the Conference in both offensive and defensive rebounds as well as overall rebounds per game. He also led the team in total points, blocked shots, field goal attempts, rebounds and field goals made – all in all he managed 13 double-doubles during the season. >>>more |

Jets Announce Pre Season Friendlies
With four weeks until the start of the 2008-9 BBL season, the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets have announced a series of pre-season matches involving their BBL rivals Sheffield Sharks, EBL Division 1 2007/8 Champions Manchester Magic and two local National league sides.
The full programme is as follows;
Sunday 7th September v Wirral Hornets @ Woodchurch High School. Tip-off 3pm
Sunday 14th September v NEWI Nets @ NEWI, Wrexham. Tip-off 5pm
Weds 17th September v Manchester Magic @ Amaechi Basketball Centre Tip off 8.15pm

Shawn Jets Back Again
With the start of the new BBL season only about a month away, BiG Storage Cheshire Jets have put another piece into the jigsaw that is their 2008-9 roster by re-signing long-time Northgate favourite Shawn Myers.
Myers, a 6'6" forward who hails from Trinidad and Tobago, rejoins the Jets for a fifth time, having enjoyed a third consecutive season in Australia with the Geelong Supercats, where he averaged 20 points [including 75%+ from the free throw-line] and 10 rebounds per game. He is a seven year BBL veteran, having played for the Newcastle Eagles, Scottish Rocks and Leicester Riders between his stints at the Jets. >>>more |

Jets Welcome Back Alto
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are pleased to confirm that they have secured the signature of Alto Virgil who will rejoin the Jets after a season with Yorkshire Rivals Sheffield Sharks
Alto, a 6ft2 guard made his debut for the Jets on October 6, 2006 in a home game against Scottish Rocks. The score finished 89-86 to the Jets, and Virgil claimed instant recognition and became a firm favourite with the Northgate faithful as the game-high scorer with 29 points. He played in all 36 league games during the 2006-07 season, averaging more than 36 minutes per game, and an impressive 18.36 points per game, becoming the club's second top scorer and the league's sixth highest scorer.>>>more |

Claire House Childrens's Hospice
The BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are happy to announce that Claire House Children’s Hospice will be their official Chester charity for 08/09 season. The club’s aim is to raise a minimum £15k for them throughout the season, by a variety of fund raising initiatives.
The Official start of the fundraising will be The September Slam 2008 - a major charity dinner to be held Chester Racecourse on Friday 12 th September with over 250 guests Attractions include, Alfresco Grill, various games, guest speakers, auction and the attendance of the entire BiG Storage Cheshire Jets 2008-9 squad. Jets Land New Playmaker
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are pleased to be able to announce that they have been successful in obtaining the signature of 5’11” playmaker Chuck Evans for the 2008-9 Basketball Season which starts in September. Evans, who played last season for the Worcester Wolves is an American / German Dual National is a graduate of Mississippi State University. He is an experienced point guard with considerable European experience, having played for Bayer Leverkusen of the German Bundesliga first division, as well as their rivals ALBA Berlin in the 2004 season. The 13-year-pro. has also featured for CSKA Moscow, where he was a Russian league winner, and has also won the German league title and been an All-Star in Poland. >>>more |

Smith Takes The Helm Again
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets are delighted to be able to confirm the appointment of Paul Smith as Chief Coach for the 2008/9 season. He will carry out his coaching duties in addition to those of Director of Basketball, a position he has held since the new structure of the club was established during summer 2007. Paul has served the club for a number of years, firstly as a player [including the famous Jetwash season] and latterly as both Chief Coach [leading the Jets to the BBL Trophy in 2204 and to the BBL league Championship in season 2004/5. He has also acted as assistant coach to Robbie Peers Mike Burton and Billy Singleton, who described him as “a master basketball strategist”. >>>more |

BiG Storage Cheshire Jets and University of Chester Launch Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Basketball
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets and The University of Chester, in just their first season of working together, have designed a unique foundation degree in Sports Coaching (Basketball) which will be launched at the British Basketball (BBL) finals at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham this weekend (3 rd/4 th May 2008)
Students on the programme will be given a unique opportunity to develop their coaching skills alongside professional coaches and players, and will help out with spreading basketball to schools across Cheshire.
The degree course will commence at the start of the new academic year in Autumn 2008 with up to 25 places available. Work based learning will form a key part of the degree and will be facilitated by BiG Storage Cheshire Jets as an integral part of their community projects and wider business activity. >>>more |

Jets Part Company With Trey Moore
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets have released guard Trey Moore this weekend ahead of the final three games of the season. Trey felt unable to fulfil his obligations to complete his work in the community and as a result will return home to America this weekend.

Shawn Heads Back Down Under
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets announced to day that fans’ favourite , Trinidadian forward Shawn Myers will be leaving to spend the summer with the Geelong Supercats in the Australian SEABL Conference.
Shawn, who is at present recuperating from a dislocated and broken finger, suffered in a game against Newcastle Eagles last month, has spent the last two Australian seasons with the Supercats and last season was named the club’s Most Valuable Player and voted the 'ResCom' Player of the Year. >>>more |

Setanta 'Slam Sunks' Basketball Deal With The BBL
London, 29 February 2008: The British Basketball League (BBL) and Setanta Sports, in partnership with PA Sport, have announced an exclusive deal for the remainder of the 2008 BBL season. BBL games for the 2008 season will be broadcast each week exclusively live on Setanta Sports, commencing with the BBL Trophy Final between the Guildford Heat and Newcastle Eagles this Sunday, March 2, 2008.
After Sunday’s game, the new deal means Setanta’s subscribers will be able to see a live BBL Championship game every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm on Setanta Sports 2 for the remainder of the regular season. Live coverage of the post-season playoffs will include a selected BBL Championship Playoff quarter-final, and the BBL Championship Playoff Final on Sunday 4 th May 2008. >>> more |

Changes On and Off Court at the Jets
Following the departure of player coach TJ Walker, the Big Storage Cheshire Jets have made changes both in the coaching and playing areas. Jayson wins Molten Player of the Month award for January
After firing the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets into the BBL Trophy semi-finals, Jayson Obazuaye has won the Molten Player of the Month award for January.
The 23-year-old Nigerian international is currently the BBL’s second leading scorer so far this season with an average of 24.6 points per game, but really shone as the Jets made a last-gasp push for a Trophy semi-final spot by winning their four group games last month.

BBL Trophy Semi Final Draw Announced
With three of the four participant teams confirmed, the draw for the BBL Trophy semi-finals, taking place at the Ponds Forge ISC in Sheffield on Saturday 2nd February, was conducted this morning and is as follows:
BBL Trophy semi-final 1 (3.30pm) Worcester Wolves vs. Guildford Heat
BBL Trophy semi-final 2 (6.00pm) Newcastle Eagles vs. Group One Winner
BBL Trophy group one remains up for grabs and will be settled next weekend.
