I’m delighted to report that I’m negotiating with interested parties a way forward for the Cheshire Jets such that they will soon be back on court…….. I will be licencing the use of the Cheshire Jets name and associated intellectual proerty rights, and will go public in more detail once we have completed the legal niceties. We are planning for an exciting future, excellent family entertainment, and one that is financially sustainable and secure.  I’ll keep you posted, Haydn Cook

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the Cheshire Jets can officially announce that they will no longer in the British Basketball League for the 2012/2013 season.

With just 3 weeks before the season started, Jets and BBL fans were shocked and pleased to hear that the club had been taken over and were in fact still part of the league.

The Jets started off this season with a tough undertaking, getting a team on the court, and to get financial backing from businesses and other means. This proved to be a huge task, and with the economic climate still unstable and with limited resources, has lead to the decision to close down the Cheshire Jets for this year.

There has been much deliberation about ways in which the club can go forward and finish the 2012/2013 season, but no viable option has come into the picture, and therefore has forced owner Haydn Cook into this decision.

“I know what the tradition of the Jets means to our volunteers and sponsors, and it is with a heavy heart that I have to put things on hold for the 2012/2013 season.”

The Cheshire Jets are a well known name in the BBL, and have a strong junior following, and the Jets are intending to keep involvement with the local community.  The Cheshire Jets Foundation will continue to function within Cheshire, as we feel it is vital for development of basketball, and will be putting on various events across the county to encourage participation and help contribute to the Olympic Legacy for Great Britain.

The Jets have run an extremely successful Summer Basketball Camp for many years, and we would like to assure fans and participants, that as of this time the Cheshire Jets Summer Camp 2013 will go ahead.

The Jets are going to put everything into building up a team for the BBL 2013/2014 season and hope to bring back professional basketball to Cheshire.

We desperately hope that the fans, volunteers and people who have been involved with the Jets over the years will continue watch for further news of the return of the Cheshire Jets.

The Cheshire Jets are pleased to announce a new signing in the shape of 6ft 4 Shooting Guard Chris Pearce.  Welsh International Pearce led Wales in scoring and rebounding in the FIBA Championship for small countries during the summer, and the Jets are very pleased to have Chris in the Squad.

Chris spent 2 years in Durham at the Wildcats, on a 2 year scholarship in partnership with the University.

The 23 year old spent the first the first 2 months of this season in Germany, playing in the Regionalliga league, but a combination of circumstances lead Chris to make the decision to come back to England and join the Cheshire Jets.

When speaking to Chris about joining the Jets;

“It is great to finally be settled in a really good programme, back in the North West too! The Jets have the potential to be very competitive this year, and we are improving everyday”

“It’s a great city, the fans are fantastic and on court everything is in place for a successful season”

Chez Marks also added;

“Chris is a great addition to the team. He also has BBL experience, as well as playing in Germany. He is going to play an important role on this team and that is going to help us, so I just want to thank Chris for adding strength to the team..”

Chris who made his first trip down to Plymouth with the team on Friday will make his home game début on Sunday against the London Lions.

The Jets took on the Plymouth Raiders on Friday, in what was on paper looking to be a very tough game. After the events of the week, everyone at the Jets was looking to stand in Coach, and Captain Chez Marks to lead the team against the strong Plymouth side.

In the first quarter the Jets took a while to pick up momentum, and were trailing 15-6, however they managed to build on this, and ended up just 6 points behind the Raiders at 26-20, at the end of the first quarter.

Raiders came out strong in the second quarter, but the Jets managed to hold and with a steal from Alif Bland and with some great teamwork, Marks and Myers managed to keep the Jets in arms length of the Raiders.

After a fantastic run in the second quarter, the Jets managed to keep the deficit at a mere 4 points, and with some tough defence from the Jets, the crowd were willing them onto take the lead. End of the second the score was 46- 42 to the Raiders.

After a brilliant motivational half time team talk by Matt Lloyd, via the technology of Skype, the team came out after the break looking fresh and inspired. The Plymouth fans were silenced by the shock performance from the Jets, and went into the third quarter with their heads held high.

Unfortunately Plymouth ex Jets stars, Matt Schneck and Colin O’reilly stepped up their game and with some good shooting and re-bounding took the lead further to 76-66 at the end of the third quarter.

The Jets however finished strong and kept the Raiders to a 16 point lead. Plymouth have had strong statistics over their first few weeks of the season, but the Jets managed to do what other teams have struggled with in keeping the Raiders to their lowest score yet.  Team Statistics, Chez Marks 25 Shawn Myers 18, Gabe Haskins 15, Kenny Moore 9 and Alif Bland had a great game with a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

WITH the announcement that James Hamilton has stepped down as coach, it has been a turbulent few days at the Jets.

However the club are delighted to confirm that Captain Chez Marks will be stepping into the role as stand in coach. Chez came back to the club this season after taking a year out to spend time with his family. Marks has made a big impression within the BBL and the Jets are pleased to have him back and hope that he will have success within this stand in role.

Chez will be looking for support within the team, and with experience on his side, senior team mate Shawn Myers will also play a vital role in leading the team in the coming games.

Assistant coach Matthew Lloyd will continue his role within the team, but will step up his responsibility, alongside Chez and Shawn he will play a crucial role in preparing the team for their games, and ensure that they are fully prepared to go out and win.

The club has huge respect for Coach Lloyd for taking on the challenge. It was a unanimous decision by both management and the team to ask Matt to work alongside Marks and Myers in a more senior role during training, and we have every confidence that the trio will bring home success to the Northgate.

Chez said when asked by the club about this new role;

“We have got some big shoes to fill, but with all three of us, I feel that we can come close to filling those shoes. With youth and experience I think we can take on this challenge together”

“It isn’t going to happen overnight, but we all have the determination and the fight to do the best that we can and try to have a successful year”

We are calling on the fans and supporters of the Cheshire Jets to show their support for the new team and we look forward to seeing you all at the Northgate for our next home game against the London Lions on Sunday 28th October.
